I quit, to continue onward

I'm changing my course. As of 1 January 2014, I will stop the selling brokerage and I will continue forth as a purchasing broker. In that capacity, I will be available, on a consultancy basis, for purchasing and selling advice, valuations, negotiations of any nature, transaction settlements, mediations, and counselling of entrepreneurs in the water sports sector.

I'm saying farewell to the hectic world of sales brokerage. And yes, it will take some getting used to, but the time has come for me to change course. In recent years, I have not been able to transfer the ownership of my company.

I founded Scheepsmakelaardij Enkhuizen in the winter of 1987/88. Over the years, we were able to successfully complete 806 transactions, hundreds of valuations and dozens of other assignments, assisted by a number of loyal co-workers. I take pride in that and it was a wonderful time.

Of course, I will settle all current affairs, but at the beginning of 2014 it will be curtains for the sales marketing business. The active sales of traditional ships, something I have worked on with great pleasure at Scheepsmakelaardij Enkhuizen, will transfer to a number of colleagues, in whom I have great faith.

Eight hundred and six transactions ... Believe you me, I could write more than one book about it. Sales brokerage is a colourful line of business, where many an exciting adventure can be experienced and where emotions are manifold. Clients came from all over the planet, bringing along their culture and background, and sometimes introducing the most peculiar ways of doing business.

The things that I have learned from them, will be utilised in my new position, just as the confidence I enjoy from clients, sales persons and buyers, as well as experts, shipyards, crews, notaries and lawyers. Recently, I have been appointed secretary to the Nederlandse Bond van Makelaars in Schepen (Dutch Ship Brokers Association) in which capacity I will be serving the interests of the recognised yacht and ship brokers.

My wide experience and nation-wide network of professionals will allow me to come up with an adequate answer to almost any question.

I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for all the faith you have had in me and I hope, always will. I hope, in future, to see you again and serve as your purchase broker.
